Sometimes the birds need a little help!

The House I’ll Build for the Wrens by Shirley Neitzel is a Rebus story! Rebus stories have pictures to take the place of some of the words so your little one can help “read” the book!

It is also written in the style of “the house that Jack built” so each pageĀ  of text ends with the previousĀ  text from the story. By the end of the book, your child will be able to repeat the end of each page with you and that is an important reading readiness skill!

Here’s some ideas to use with this book:

  • there is such wonderful vocabulary in this book – all kinds of tools and details about building!
  • the little boy does a very good job of cleaning up the mess he has made in his mother’s workshop and this can be used as an example for clean-up
  • this is a great example of finding value in work even if it is not perfect!

Enjoy reading this book together!
